George Soros has directed his wealth into an under-the-radar 2016 campaign to advance one of the progressive movement’s core goals — reshaping the American justice system.
The billionaire financier has channeled more than $3 million into seven local district attorney campaigns in six states over the past year — a sum that exceeds the total spent on the 2016 presidential campaign by all but a handful of rival super-donors.
His money has supported African-American and Hispanic candidates for these powerful local roles, all of whom ran on platforms sharing major goals of Soros’, like reducing racial disparities in sentencing and directing some drug offenders to diversion programs instead of to trial. It is by far the most tangible action in a progressive push to find, prepare and finance criminal justice reform-oriented candidates for jobs that have been held by long-time incumbents and serve as pipelines to the federal courts — and it has inspired fury among opponents angry about the outside influence in local elections.
Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump weighed in on Colin Kaepernick’s decision not to stand during the national anthem, suggesting that the 49ers quarterback find himself a different country to live in.
“I think it’s a terrible thing, and you know, maybe he should find a country that works better for him, let him try, it’s not gonna happen,” Trump said, when asked about the controversy on The Dori Monson Show on Seattle radio station KIRO.
Trump has not weighed in further, although Kaepernick’s protest is the biggest topic of conversation around the nation.
“I don’t see it being a distraction. It’s something that can unify this team. It’s something that can unify this country,” Kaepernick said, defending his decision. “If we have these real conversations that are uncomfortable for a lot of people. If we have these conversations, there’s a better understanding of where both sides are coming from.”

Homeland eyes special declaration to take charge of elections
Even before the FBI identified new cyber attacks on two separate state election boards, the Department of Homeland Security began considering declaring the election a "critical infrastructure," giving it the same control over security it has over Wall Street and and the electric power grid.
The latest admissions of attacks could speed up that effort possibly including the upcoming presidential election, according to officials.
"We should carefully consider whether our election system, our election process, is critical infrastructure like the financial sector, like the power grid," Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson said.
"There's a vital national interest in our election process, so I do think we need to consider whether it should be considered by my department and others critical infrastructure," he said at media conference earlier this month hosted by the Christian Science Monitor.
DHS has a vital security role in 16 areas of critical infrastructure and they provide a model for what the department and Johnson could have in mind for the election.
DHS describes it this way on their website: "There are 16 critical infrastructure sectors whose assets, systems, and networks, whether physical or virtual, are considered so vital to the United States that their incapacitation or destruction would have a debilitating effect on security, national economic security, national public health or safety, or any combination thereof."
A White House policy directive adds, "The federal government also has a responsibility to strengthen the security and resilience of its own critical infrastructure, for the continuity of national essential functions, and to organize itself to partner effectively with and add value to the security and resilience efforts of critical infrastructure owners and operators."
At the time, Johnson did not mention specific security issues, but the FBI has since cited one hack and another attempt.
Johnson also said that the big issue at hand is that there isn't a central election system since the states run elections. "There's no one federal election system. There are some 9,000 jurisdictions involved in the election process," Johnson said.
"There's a national election for president, there are some 9,000 jurisdictions that participate, contribute to collecting votes, tallying votes and reporting votes," he said.

Approximately 30 of the 14,900 deleted emails recovered by the FBI from Hillary Clinton’s private email server may involve the 2012 attack on Benghazi, Libya, State Department lawyers said on Tuesday. “If Clinton did not consider emails about something as important as Benghazi to be work-related, one has to wonder what is contained in the other emails she attempted to wipe from her server.”
Trump immigration speech:A president was born on Wednesday
America, we were introduced to our next president on Wednesday night. He’s not a politician. He is one of a kind. He is an American. Welcome President Donald J. Trump.
I’m a cynical Jewish Ivy Leaguer from New York. Nothing gets me too excited. I don’t believe politicians. Nor do I believe in politicians. I don’t fall for theatrical political productions. I don’t believe rhetoric or propaganda. And I’ve never teared up over a political speech in my life.
Until now. . .
Wednesday night I found myself fist-pumping. I found myself chanting along with the crowd “USA, USA, USA.” And as the procession of mothers and fathers came up to the podium to state the name of their child -- who was murdered by illegal immigrants -- and then say “I’m voting for Trump” or “Trump is our last chance to save America” I found myself tearing up. And the amazing thing is… I couldn't stop. The tears rolled down my face.
This speech in Arizona was the game-changer.
Not just the speech, but the entire day. Trump accepted the invitation to meet with the President of Mexico. He showed he’s a man of action by flying to Mexico on a moment’s notice. Trump stood next to Mexico's president -- looking to all the world like President Donald J. Trump. Trump stated his case and never gave an inch to the president of Mexico. Trump turned a vision -- that was mocked and ripped to shreds for a year now -- into a reality. Who now believes that if Trump is elected a wall won’t be built?
It Gets Worse: Bill Clinton Paid To Install Hillary’s Private Server With Taxpayer Money Former president Bill Clinton used taxpayer funds from cash provided to him as an ex-president to pay for employees to set up the family’s private email server, according to a new report from Politico.
Clinton drew money from the General Services account to pay part of his aide Justin Cooper’s salary — the same person who helped set up a private email server in Clinton’s home.
It goes deeper.
Clinton used taxpayer funds to boost the salaries of ten different Clinton loyalists, despite his growing wealth from delivering paid speeches. The funds were also used to purchase equipment for the Clinton foundation.
Republican presidential nominee Donald raised more than $5 million on Wednesday, the day he visited Mexico and delivered a highly anticipated immigration speech, according to The Wall Street Journal.
Trump’s digital director, Brad Parscale, told the Journal that Wednesday’s haul is a new daily record for the real estate mogul. He said that it consisted of online small-dollar donations and doesn’t include donations made through the phone or mail. The fundraising record comes following Trump's last-minute trip to Mexico City to meet with Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto amid reports that the GOP nominee is softening his stance on immigration.
At a joint press conference Wednesday afternoon, Trump called for an end to the “humanitarian disaster” of illegal immigration and said the U.S. and Mexico have a “shared objective” in ending it. Trump said that he met with Peña Nieto for more than an hour and ended his speech by calling the Mexican president a friend.
Taking questions from reporters following the speech, Trump said their discussion of a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border did not include payment. Peña Nieto later contradicted Trump’s answer, saying he told the businessman Mexico would not be paying for construction of the wall.
At a rally in Arizona later on Wednesday, Trump returned to his usual rhetoric and laid out a hard-line immigration plan that shut down any rumors that he would be pivoting or softening his position on the issue. He promised to build his signature border wall and warned that no one illegally in the country would be exempt from deportation.
"Anyone who has entered the United States illegally is subject to deportation. That is what it means to have laws and to have a country. Otherwise we don’t have a country,” Trump said Wednesday night.
Trump has been stepping up his fundraising as he seeks to close the gap with Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton. In July, he raised $80 million, but he still lags behind Clinton, who raised $90 million and continues to boast a significant cash-on-hand advantage.
I am going to persuade my date to vote for Trump on Saturday. But I am not good at persuading people. Can anyone list some major points and supportive materials to help me out? Thank you.
