The number of Syrian refugees who have arrived in the U.S. nearly doubled in June as the Obama administration aims to make good on its pledge to resettle at least 10,000 by the end of the fiscal year.
In all, 5,186 Syrian refugees have arrived in the U.S. since Oct. 1, following President Obama’s directive to step up resettlement efforts—and 2,381 of them arrived in June, according to records updated by the Refugee Processing Center, operated by the State Department.
They’ve been resettled across 38 states; Michigan has taken in the largest group of Syrian refugees, 570 so far, followed by California, which has taken in 500. But a dozen states have taken in no Syrian refugees, and more than a dozen have taken in fewer than 50.
To meet its goal, the U.S. must accept 4,814 more over the next three months . This fiscal year’s total already well exceeds the 1,682 Syrian refugees taken in during the previous year, but pales in comparison to the 4.8 million Syrians who have fled the war, now in its sixth year.
Millions remain in the neighboring countries of Lebanon, Turkey and Jordan; the flow of people leaving Syria also contributed to refugee crisis in Europe, which ended its calendar year having taken in some 1 million migrants and refugees.
The screening process by which the U.S. admits refugees is complex, and even more so for Syrians, spanning on average 18 to 24 months. TIME broke down this process in a Q&A with Jana Mason, a senior adviser to the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees, which refers Syrian refugees to the U.S. for resettlement.

No Trump campaign buttons or bumper stickers for me. I’m part of the new silent majority: those who don’t like Donald Trump but might vote for him anyway. For many of us, Trump has only one redeeming quality: He isn’t Hillary Clinton. He doesn’t want to turn the United States into a politically correct, free-milk-and-cookies, European-style social democracy where every kid (and adult, too) gets a trophy just for showing up. Members of this new silent majority, many of us front-wave baby boomers, value hard work and love the United States the way it was. We long for a bygone era when you didn’t need “safe spaces” on college campuses to shelter students from the atrocity of dissenting opinions, lest their sensibilities be offended. We have the reckless notion that college is the one place where sensibilities are supposed to be challenged and debated. Silly us. Trump calls Clinton a 'world-class liar'Embed Copy Share

And please don’t try to stereotype us. We’re not uneducated, uninformed, unemployed or low-income zealots. We’re affluent, well-educated, gainfully employed and successfully retired. Some of us even own our own business, or did before we retired, creating not only our own job but also employment for others. While we’re fiscally conservative, we’re not tea partyers. And on certain social issues, many of us even have some leftward leanings. Shhhh . . . Our view of the media is old-school, too — just the facts, please. Before his untimely death some years ago, Tim Russert of “Meet the Press” set the standard for “fair and balanced” by grilling both Democratic and Republican politicians in a way that never betrayed his personal political persuasions. That still works fine. It’s just damn hard to find. The only pleasure the new silent majority has taken throughout this primary season has been watching progressives marinate in their own righteous indignation. They were giddy, like spoiled children opening Christmas presents, as they watched 17 Republican combatants call in airstrikes on one another. But eventually the tables turned as the Hillary-Bernie slugfest got ugly, and we took particular delight in the sourpuss expression on the faces of the lefties we know when they realized that the Republicans, left for dead, suddenly had new life and a chance to win the presidency. We are under no illusions about Trump. We know that this Man Who Would Be King is a classic bully and a world-class demagogue in his personal, professional and political lives. He will continue to demonize his perceived enemies and take the low road at every opportunity.
And we know that if Trump makes it all the way to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave., the view after that is murky at best. We’re confident that he will surround himself with smart and capable people from the business world, as well as some Capitol Hill veterans. But here’s the rub: Past business associates describe him as a micromanager who likes yes men at his side. How long this new Washington brain trust will last in a Trump administration is anybody’s guess. Who’s to blame for the Trump phenomenon? There’s culpability on both sides of the aisle for the absence of bipartisanship that fueled his rise. The left blames the policies of a fragmented, delusional, right-wing GOP. But the left bears responsibility, too. Turns out that the obstructers in Congress weren’t just the Republicans, as Bob Woodward reported in his book “The Price of Politics.” President Obama kept “moving the goal posts” in the 2011 sequester negotiations with Republicans. And who can forget the way Republicans were bullied over health care? They were left with no choice but to use every procedural maneuver in their arsenal to block, delay or postpone the liberal legislative agenda. So why then would rational, affluent, informed citizens consider voting for The Donald? Short of not voting at all — still an option some of us are considering — he’s the only one who appears to want to preserve the American way of life as we know it. For the new silent majority, the alternative to Trump is bleak: a wealthy, entitled progressive with a national security scandal in her hip pocket. In our view, the thought of four to eight more years of a progressive agenda polluting the American Dream is even more dangerous to the survival of this country than Trump is. ‘Let me be clear , we’re not saying that someone who did something similar wouldn’t have charges brought against them. We are just not bringing charges in this particular case.” Comey FBI's Comey confirms laws are for the little people, and not the Clintons.
Whether this was the right or wrong decision, it will just further three narratives:
1) The Clintons are above the law; 2) The elites can get away with pretty much anything. 3) Major institutions can no longer be trusted to do the right thing.
It's all very corrosive to a society that depends so much on trust.
=====The whole thing is so weird. SO weird. Comey spends 15 minutes describing her crimes and violations and then says, "But no indictment is recommended." What is going on with that man?
====I have to wonder of this is the beginning of a coup. No matter the wrongdoing, the party in power will not respect the rule of law and prosecute their own.
====Anyone who now votes for Hillary is basically telling the country it's ok for the president to be careless with national security secrets as long as she has the correct ideology.
I actually think this may hurt Clinton more than her supporters think here. For 95% of Comey's presentation he slammed Hillary on many fronts, making it clear what she did. Her supporters here seem to forget that he said 110 secret or top secret emails were on her private server, a clear violation of federal law. I had a top secret clearance so don't try and argue it is not. Trump will use this to his advantage.
..more than that... as I posted 2 months ago, I was scared she gets indicted, Bernie or Biden goes up on the ticket, both already announced, their VP running mate will be Pocahontas (now if you want a worse criminal than Hillary, there she is).... and this clueless, mindless, unable to think, dumbed down herd (a.k.a. the American progressive liberal voting block) will carry "that" pair into the WH on their shoulders.
Trump has a much better chance to beat Clinton than either of the other two pairs.
===In some ways this is good news. It allows Trump to carry on about the rigged system and Crooked -- and now Careless -- Hillary. And it keeps her in the race. She has to be the worst candidate they could field.
====I tend to agree. Comey basically indicted her for 95% of his presentation, then said no federal prosecutor would press it. He did not say she was not guilty.
====The next time I'm speeding I'll use the excuse: I didn't intend to violate the law. Gotta work, right? Of course the best way to look at this case is if it were anyone else it would be called NWNC: negligent while not Clinton... and they'd be busted.
====It is no wonder why we have had so many horrific Muslim terrorist attacks on US soil in the last couple of years. Our FBI is grossly incompetent.
====If you read the complete statement, you will find: Comey said, "To be clear, this is not to suggest that in similar circumstances, a person who engaged in this activity would face no consequences."
In other words, if it were anyone but Hillary, there would be consequences. As it is, I want to live to see my next birthday.
Another line for Trump to use in a commercial, if he is smart.

现在就完全取决于 trump / GOP to make a case to American people。
