US Federal Reserve chief Janet Yellen has one very good reason for raising US interest rates next month: politics.
Although central bankers are supposed to be above base political considerations, few would blame Yellen for wanting to shield herself and the US central bank from attack as the 2016 US presidential race picks up pace.
And Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump this week demonstrated the Fed's vulnerability as a result of its near-zero interest rate policy.
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Trump said that Yellen was "highly political" and was keeping interest rates low in order to help President Barack Obama
"They are not raising them because Obama has asked them not to raise them," the billionaire property developer said.
"In my opinion he wants to get out of office because we are in a bubble and when those rates are raised, a lot of bad things are going to happen."
To avoid such allegations, Yellen appears to be carefully grooming investors to expect an interest rate rise when the Federal Open Markets Committee meets on December 15-16
The next question is from Bill. He wanted to know if it was true that I was offered a slot at West Point after high school.
Bill, that is true. I was the highest student ROTC member in Detroit and was thrilled to get an offer from West Point. But I knew medicine is what I wanted to do. So I applied to only one school. (it was all the money I had). I applied to Yale and thank God they accepted me. I often wonder what might have happened had they said no.
The migrant crisis from the Middle East and North Africa demands our urgent attention. The United States has a long history of response to humanitarian disasters and this should be no exception. Our immediate role should be to support our regional allies who are on the front lines through public and private assistance to the international organizations who are best poised to administer aid.
In terms of settling the migrants, if the ultimate goal is to return them to their homes, which I believe it should be, it doesn’t make sense from a logistical or a security standpoint to move large numbers of them to far-off countries like the United States.
Ultimately, we need to address the cause of this crisis or we will just have more and more migrants displaced. Bad actors like Turkey’s Erdogan and Russia’s Putin, both of whom have contributed tangentially to this crisis, announced this week that the West is to blame. This is disingenuous at best. The blame should be laid squarely at the door of the vicious, radical Islamism that is tearing communities apart from Libya to Syria and Iraq, creating the terrible circumstances that are causing the migrants to flee their homes. The failure of the United States has been an unwillingness to name and confront this threat.
The regime in Tehran and their proxies may be Shiite and ISIS and its affiliates Sunni, but they are the cause of this problem. They are branches of the same poisonous tree – radical Islamism. Until we recognize the threat from this savage, twisted totalitarian ideology and develop a coherent strategy to combat it, we will at best be putting a Band-Aid onto a life-threatening wound.
“What I actually have said is that because of my rapid rise in ROTC to become the city executive officer in less time than anyone had done it before, I got lots of invitations,” Carson recalled. “Because of my rapid rise I was told that they could get me into West Point and that I would never have to pay a penny.” Dr. Carson added, “I was very flattered by that, but I said I want to become a doctor, it’s always been my dream, so even though I’m very honored, thank you, I didn’t pursue that.”
Carson also explained that he never was, nor did he ever claim to have been, offered the scholarship by General William Westmoreland, who still maintains he met around 1969.
“I don’t remember who the people were [who offered me the scholarship], there were multiple military people that I talked to” Carson told Sean. “I mean, again, we’re talking almost 50 years ago, there’s just no way I’m going to remember who they are.”

感觉媒体调拨 trump 也huaren.us on
我觉得trump明年的运不错,but don't quote me on it.
