My guess is after the British guy incident, or even from the beginning he is working for Hu. He and his team find out all the evidence about the death(It is not likely that Bo let him to investgate from beginning, Wang is secretly investigating until Bo's people found out). Bo find out that Wang is investigating it and gets very angry and want to get 'rid' of him. Wang try to run away but he is followed and no where to hide, so he go to American Embassy to buy time(telling Hu that he been discovered and need help), waited until Hu send his people to pick him up.
