Below is a summary of the curriculum for the rest of the term (before spring break), just want to share.
Math
This half term in Numeracy the children will continue to solve problems, including missing number problems, using different operations and strategies. They will also consolidate their understanding of time and begin to solve real life problems. Children will also be introduced to decimals and simple fractions and we will begin to find a half and a quarter of a set of objects. This will be extended to finding and writing fractions of shapes and amounts.
English
This half term in Literacy the children will continue to explore books that are written by the same author. They will investigate the author’s style and will write their own stories using that style. Children will also have the opportunity to review story writing, including how to the plan the parts of a story, as well as identifying the setting and main character. Children will also be reading, evaluating and writing their own non-chronological reports. They will look at a range of non-fiction texts and their features. They will then research, plan, write and edit their own non-chronological report to be included in a class book.
Science
Science this half term will focus on Variation. Children will learn to sort living things according to a number of different criteria, recognising similarities and differences between plants and animals. They will also look at different habitats and think about why different animals are found in different places. They will also design their own habitat taking into account the climate the animal likes, the food it eats, the predators it has along with other important factors.
ICT Information & Communication Technology
Within ICT this half term the children will explore different applications of ICT. Part of this will involve practising their typing skills. They will also further develop their understanding of a word processing program and use complex features such as shift and copy and paste. Children will link their ICT work to their Literacy learning and they will use ICT to communicate story ideas. They will also use PowerPoint to create a pictorial story.
Topic
The IPC topic this term is ‘Flowers and Insects.’ The children will be learning about the characteristics of insects, their lifecycles and habitats. They will also be looking at a variety of flowers, how seeds are grown and how the climate can affect growth. As part of this topic, children will have the opportunity to watch seeds grow.
French
During this half term children will continue to develop their language skills through the interactive story of The Frog Prince in French. Children’s understanding of previous topics (talking about their daily routine in French using reflexive verbs, what they eat and drink, transport and animals) will be revised and extended now that the Prince has turned into a frog! They will continue to practice the key skills of speaking and listening in the target language.
Spanish
Students will work on a descriptions topic where they will learn to name the parts of the face (e.g. Es la boca. Son los ojos. Es la nariz. Es el pelo). Students will draw upon their previous learning and knowledge of colors (e.g. rojo, azul, verde, marrón, gris) to give color to some facial features. They will learn some a adjectives and learn to use both the third person singular and the third person plural of the verb ‘ser’ (to be) to further describe the face (e.g. La boca es rojo. La nariz es grande).
Music
In Music this half-term students will continue to work on their vocal skills by learning a variety of warm ups and action songs related to their new IPC topic ‘Plants and Insects’. They will continue to develop their understanding of the orchestra and will develop listening skills via program music e.g. Korsakov’s Flight of the Bumblebee, Grieg’s The Butterfly etc. Students will develop their tuned percussion skills by learning ‘The Ugly Bug Ball’ on xylophones and metallophones. Rhythmic skills will continue to be extended.
Physical Education
In Physical Education and Games this term students will be learning benchball. This will include developing their hand-eye co-ordination, balance and agility skills through passing and catching; movement and game play. Students will be given the opportunity to work individually, in pairs and small groups as well as of part of a team. This encourages the students to self-assess their own and others abilities’, giving them the chance to improve themselves and each other as the unit progresses. Within their PE and Games lessons we will also be ensuring they are working towards their IPC mileposts. They will also continue their dance lessons with an outside dance teacher.
Art
In our weekly art sessions, children will have the opportunity to explore creating flowers and insects using a variety of materials. They will observe work created by different artists and base their own work on what they have seen. The children will develop skills to improve and evaluate their learning.

最近看到很多关于私校的讨论，也看到关于私校的实的不实的传言，就想写一下自己孩子的私校经历和感触，一家之言，仅供参考。
1。为什么选私校
我们所在的公立学区还可以，主要当初上K的时候公校只有半天，我们是双职工，权衡利弊之后，决定选择私校，全天还有after school clubs，很丰富多彩。后来因为孩子喜欢，而且一个孩子也能负担得起就继续下去了。
2。私校的花费
一般而言，教会学校会便宜一些，独立学校要贵。我们上的学校是独立学校，学费不算低，但是综合考虑到每天每年上课的时间，灭天从8点15到3：30，还有after school clubs (free) 到5点，每年7月初放假到8月底，圣诞两个星期，春假两个星期，就觉得还算物有所值。另外，我们的学校从来没有fund raising event,所有的钱就是学费，所以没有太大的压力。
3。关于申请
申请并不保证一定能上，要面试家长，还有孩子，孩子要单独在学校和其他学生待一天以考察是否可以融入这个集体。我听说过几起从中国来的孩子被拒的事情，好像是孩子表现得不够独立，不够成熟。在美国长大的孩子基本上没有太大的问题。当然还要看学校是否有空位。
4。关于学业

5。关于peer pressure
我们是工薪阶层，孩子的同学里有大富大贵之人，也有和我们一样的，老师和学校对大家应该是一视同仁。我们去的孩子的生日会有很fancy的，也有普通的，我觉得孩子们都能处理得很好。不过有一次我的孩子问我什么是好车，我们的车是不是好车（一辆日本sedan)，为什么我们没有BMW(很多孩子家的车是BMW)。我们大概说了一下每个人家的收入不一样，消费观念不一样，花钱的地方也不一样，似乎也明白了些，并没有觉得有什么不好。我们自己脸皮也厚，没有觉得其他家长就看不起我们什么的。孩子有很多朋友，也经常会有playdate.
总而言之，私校的投资不算小，所以一定要量力而行，而且也要多方打听还有要去参观。我们选择这个学校也是听了很多朋友的好评，另外当我去参观学校的时候，那些小朋友给我留下了非常深刻的印象，有礼貌，而且很快乐，很爱学习，这是我对我孩子的期望。事实上，每天早上，我的孩子都很盼望新的一天学习生活的开始，我觉得什么都是值得的。
我们是在中部州的一个城市，学费大约是23k/year, 考虑到每年放假的时间短 （暑期不到2个月，圣诞节和春假各2个星期，还有3个星期假分散在各个学期中间），每天从8点到5点，我觉得还是可以接受的。学校的软硬件设施都非常好，一个班最多20个学生，2个老师，每天recess2-3次。每学期差不多2次field trip，偶尔需要家长的帮助，不过全凭自愿。

还有个问题是，很多人说上私立，很多时候就会跟邻居孩子们玩不到一起，因为别人基本上都是上一个学校。这方面怎么办？
麻呀 我仔细字字的看 眼睛都花了
我家娃也送私立的一个教会学校钱少,性价比超高,这么说吧: 我娃K之前26个字母写不全,数数只数到40,还经常37完了就不知道怎么往下接了,我知道他这样是因为每次接他都发现他们玩HIDE&SEEK时候要数到50, 我娃从来没有数到过50. 当然了,我们家老公不让学前教育,说怕把娃的潜力都开发过早了,以后没有后劲了.(汗呀!看来应适当早教一点,那娃就不会吃那么多苦了.后话了!)结果直接后果就是一开学的SCREENING TEST, 娃数学,英语都不合格,进K的要求是会数数到一百,会50个单词.娃在PRE-K的朋友有8个小朋友都直接升到K了他也闹着要去.我本来也不打算送私校的,为了上城里最好的好小学,我们特意买了城里的房子,要额外交DOUBLE的地税.后来宁不过孩子,就接着送K了.
没想到,这学校极其严格,跟PRE-K完全不同啊.每两个月一次家长会.平时每天老师都拉着家长一个一个汇报情况.因为我家娃属于直升K的,校长格外开恩说SCREENING TEST不过也让进K 了.老师开学前一周挨个孩子家家访,先给孩子讲讲她开学要怎么教他,跟孩子玩45分钟,我真是觉得又回到了国内,真是赶相信美国经验也有家访.孩子感觉还不错,挺喜欢老师的.现在孩子上二年纪了,感情是学校的传统,每年开学前一周每个老师都要去家访的.现在也习惯了,至少知道孩子的老师是什么样的了.
一上K我和孩子才知道私立难念呀,开学第二个月,我就被老师给请到学校了,老师先表扬了一下儿子BEHAVE还不错,就3,5分钟,接着花了35分钟说学习不行啊,要跟不上啊,BALBAL的,接着就批评我给孩子讲故事这不对啊,那不对的.我听的一头雾水,冒失的问我怎么讲故事,您怎么知道我不对啊? 老师还好没有发火,就笑了,说我每天都提问班级上的孩子,让他们给我读书,然后我问问题,你儿子不会读书呀,我就问他妈妈不在家陪你读吗,他说你每天将故事的,那就是说明你将故事根本就没有跟孩子互动嘛.应该怎么读,怎么怎么问,然后给我打印了一大片阅读方法让我拿回家仔细看,要求我纠正给孩子将故事呼弄的做法.这还没完,有给我一个大本子让我每天跟儿子一起写READING LOG, 妈妈一个,孩子一个,第二天要交给老师批改的.我的比较简单,儿子的整整两页, 什么作者,名字,WHO,WHAT, HOW,WHEN,WHERE, 开始,中间,结尾什么的,每天儿子都是伴着眼泪完成作业,搞得我整个K一年就天天紧张被老师批评没写好作业.下了班就赶紧跑回家陪儿子完成作业,这么过拉两个月,老师终于又召见我了,表扬儿子进步很大.K毕业的时候我儿子已经开始瓜瓜的读写MAGIC SCHOOL BUS 和TREE HOUSE的LOG了.数学在他爸爸的陪练下也突飞猛进.
进入一年纪的时候,老师家访是第一句话就说,我听说你家孩子是K班进步最快的孩子,你知道吗,K班有2个孩子已经劝退了,因为跟不上,校长建议他们去更适合他们的学校了.天呀,听得我真是后怕.一年级儿子就是好学生队伍里面的了,现在二年纪了,老师在第一次家访时就说你儿子数学课爱炫耀,自己昨晚就BOTHER其他同学,我要想办法帮他改掉坏毛病,我决定让他做我的数学可助理,你同意吗?我连连点头同意,没问题.然后拿来一个大文件夹,那你要在这里签字,我一边签字一边想为啥签字?卖儿子呢?过了半学期,老师请我去学校谈话,我胆战心惊的去了,开口就问我儿子犯啥事了?老师说今天让你来是要授予你儿子好学生奖励,他最近以来边线太好了,尽职尽责帮老师上数学课,还教同学怎么算得更快,同学都很喜欢他做助教.要我代表全班推荐他为今年的优秀学生,别的老师也表扬他.我来不及高兴,只是放心下来,只要儿子不若事情就好.儿子现在已经越来越有小LEADER的感觉了,是老师同学公认的楷模,也不骄傲,臭显巴了.
我觉得美国老师的教育真的还挺有一套的,儿子从K到二年纪,每天都有作业,数学是两个作业,一个是普通的,一个是他们学校CLUB的.老师说只要有一次不交就终止,属于自愿放弃.学校特别重视每个孩子个性的引导,绝不一棒子打死. 学校有钢琴老师在AFTERSCHOOL一对一交,只收15块40分钟,还有体育俱乐部也很便宜. 美国家庭对孩子的教育也不象我们很多华人人为的那么宽松,啥也不管,我儿子学校家长的PTA组织也是每个月找孩子家长分配活,大家一起帮助学校高活动.今年开家长会时我问了个傻问题,你们学校比其他城里的最好的公立好还是差不多.人家回答我,我们比较重视学业,平均每个学年比公立学校快一到两年.我们每年都要参加全美国的私立学校考试评估的.不时只从三年纪开始考试评估的.所以不管进什么学校,关建还是要看孩子遇到怎么样的老师,目前这个学校的三位老师还真是认真负责还有方法,让我敬佩!
