The root of the political polarization problem is that the state legislatures are in charge of congressional redistricting. This creates safe seats for each party. So members of congress only need to worry about someone more extreme to defeat him/her in the primaries. This makes politicians only to cater the extreme wings of the population.

CNN报导,2016年9月时,小布希与蜜雪儿出席史密森国家非裔美国人历史文化博物馆的开幕仪式时,蜜雪儿在台上热情地给小布希一个大拥抱,成为当时最抢镜的画面,也才开始让不少人注意到他俩的好交情。
此外,在2018年资深共和党参议员马侃(John McCain)的葬礼期间,当时小布希坐在蜜雪儿旁边,他递出薄荷糖给对方,这段影片随后也在网络上引起热议。
小布希18日接受哥伦比亚公司(CBS)的周日早晨节目采访时说,“美国人对于我和蜜雪儿能成为朋友,感到很震惊。美国人的思想很两极化,以致于无法想像小布希和蜜雪儿是朋友”。
小布希的妻子劳拉(Laura Bush)补充,“这是一种友谊”。
