阿灵顿国家公墓隔着波多马克河（Potomac River）与华府相望。川普8月26日违反公墓有关不得基于政治目的拍照规定，径自与在阿富汗殉职的美军亲属合照，相关内容随后被他的竞选团队上传至社群媒体。
其中一张照片显示，川普与1名殉职陆战队员家属合照时，在墓碑前面露齿微笑，右手竖起大拇指。
副总统贺锦丽今天在社群网站X发文说：“让我说清楚：前总统（川普）不尊重神圣之地，这一切都是为了政治噱头。”
她说：“如果有一件事是我们身为美国人都能同意的，那就是我们的退伍军人、军眷和现役军人应获得尊重，不受丝毫贬低，并享有我们最崇高的敬重和谢意。”
川普这趟公墓行程引起部分退伍军人和军眷的批评。美国陆军8月30日也出面替公墓工作人员说话，说员工在维护公墓禁止从事政治活动的规定时，遭遇不当攻击。
川普竞选团队形容这名女性员工是“可耻的一个人”，并称她“显然心理健康有问题”。
美国陆军则是称赞这名员工“行事专业”，并谴责整起事件“令人遗憾”。
