神秘的主人
据《洛杉矶时报》报道，火灾是下午4点40分发生的，起火点是小楼一层，45名消防员抵达现场后，用了半小时左右才扑灭火情，但在一层室内的房屋主人已经身亡。
当地警方调查了选民登记记录，发现房主名叫威廉·罗斯柴尔德，现年87岁。在屋内的一本杂志上，写着同样的名字。
另一个数据库则显示，拥有这处房产的是一名77岁的男子，但姓名也是威廉·罗斯柴尔德。警方据此认定了死者的身份。

这些势力用各种手段左右本国或他国的经济命脉乃至政治命运，通过煽动政治事件、诱发经济危机，控制世界财富的流向与分配。几乎每一场世界重大变故背后，都有他们的身影。
《货币战争》的第一部分，就详细描述了罗斯柴尔德家族的发家史。
这是一个犹太家族，从16世纪起定居于德国法兰克福的犹太区，直到18世纪才开始发迹。而使家族兴旺起来的，就是梅耶·罗斯柴尔德。
梅耶10岁时，父亲便开始教他做生意。20岁时，他与上流社会搭上了关系，不断向皇室贵族兜售古钱币，并得到了当地领主比海姆公爵的召见。
梅耶以近乎赠送的低价，向公爵卖出了他收藏的古代徽章和钱币。他十分清楚，要在这个犹太人备受歧视的社会里脱颖而出，接近手握权势的领主并博得其欢心是最有效的手段。
25岁那年，梅耶得到了“宫廷御用商人”头衔，生意越做越兴旺，不仅从事棉制品、烟酒等行业，还开始涉足金融领域。到40岁时，他已经成了法兰克福城的首富。
但梅耶的野心远不止于此。他让自己的儿子们走出德国，分散到欧洲各地，共同建立了罗斯柴尔德家族的“金融帝国”。

其中干得最好的是梅耶的三儿子内森。1804年，他只身来到英国伦敦，开始做棉布生意。
当时正值拿破仑战争期间，一些德国贵族流亡到了英国，包括法兰克福的威廉伯爵。他为了保护自己的财产，委托内森购买了大批英国债券，内森借机做起了债券和股票生意，很快便发了财。
不久后，内森的几个兄弟分别在法国巴黎、奥地利的维也纳和意大利的那不勒斯建立了罗斯柴尔德家族银行的分行。
他们通过这些分行获取当地的政治、经济情报，并互相沟通，因此能迅速采取行动。当他们联手时，甚至能够左右欧洲的外汇交易价格。
当时，一名普鲁士驻英国的外交官这样形容罗斯柴尔德家族对金融事务的影响力：“当内森发怒时，英格兰银行都在颤抖。”

梅耶去世前，立下了严格的遗嘱：家族银行中的重要职位必须由家族内部人员担任；家族通婚只能在表亲之间进行，防止财富外流（后来放宽到可以与其他犹太银行家族通婚）；禁止对外公布财产情况；在财产继承上，禁止律师介入……
不过，经过二战，罗斯柴尔德家族在欧洲的势力被大大削弱了。时至今日，该家族的财富规模虽不如鼎盛时期，却依旧不可小觑，而且其家族成员遍布全球，在金融、能源、房地产等领域根基深厚。
罗斯柴尔德家族企业一直没有上市，也从未公布过财富总额。但外界一直有种猜测，认为这个家族才是真正的世界首富。
“不满、愤怒、痛恨”
正是因为威廉的家族背景，对于他的死，尽管官方没有透露更多信息，网上却有各种各样的分析与猜测。
媒体找到了威廉的社交账号，发现他从2020年之后就不再更新。在网友看来，他的死并不简单。

2021年1月，罗斯柴尔德集团董事会主席本杰明·罗斯柴尔德去世，终年57岁，死因是心脏病发作。
他从1997年起就担任罗斯柴尔德集团董事会主席职务，被外界认为暗中控制着全球多家知名银行和巨额财富。外界认为，他突然去世，显得蹊跷。
2022年11月，罗斯柴尔德家族第五代掌门人伊夫林·罗斯柴尔德在英国伦敦去世，享年91岁。
他与英国王室关系匪浅，曾担任已故女王伊丽莎白二世的财务顾问，他的最后一任妻子与美国政坛过从甚密，包括美国前国务卿基辛格、前总统克林顿等人。
2024年2月，罗斯柴尔德家族第四代男爵、英国金融家雅各布·罗斯柴尔德去世，享年87岁。
他是以色列的重要支持者，曾在2017年接受采访时表示：“我的家族创造了以色列。”他去世后，他的家人发布了讣告，却没有给出死因和具体死亡时间，再一次引发外界猜测。
