其中72岁的安妮公主是英国王室中第一位参加“王子守夜”仪式的女性，具有历史意义。报导指出，安妮公主除了是皇家海军暨陆战队慈善机构的赞助人，同时也是皇家海军朴茨茅斯总司令，是王室中唯一一位在国事场合中穿军装的女性成员。
报导补充，“王子守夜”是一项悠久的英国王室传统，乔治五世国王1936年逝世与2002年伊莉莎白王太后的国葬期间都曾举行这项仪式。目前伊莉莎白二世在爱丁堡的守夜仪式结束后，灵柩将停留在圣吉尔斯大教堂24小时，开放苏格兰人民瞻仰。
