日本共产党14日发表以“立即停止打压香港”为题的声明指出，香港警察日前近距离以实弹对示威者开枪，造成一人腹部中弹重伤。这种对手无寸铁示威者开枪的野蛮暴行令人无法容忍，此外，港警还冲入大学校园内造成多人受伤、被捕。
这份声明还说，香港当局加强镇压民众获得了中国最高领导阶层的批准与指导，中国官媒甚至还告诉香港警察什么都不用怕，等于是公然以武力煽动威吓。
声明还表示，港府打压的根本责任是在中国政府及中国共产党，要求立即停止打压香港民众。
日本共产党委员长志位和夫在记者会上表示，中国政府应该负起维护人权的责任，在允许香港特区政府拥有高度自治的一国两制情况下，以和平的方式解决事态。
