美国前总统川普13日遇袭，事后又爆出当地警方早在枪手犯案前就在屋顶上发现其踪影，引发民众对执法单位失职、维安失败等质疑。14日晚间，一名执法专家在《福斯晚间新闻》还原了刺杀事件爆发前，警方与枪手在屋顶对峙的情况。
据福斯新闻报导，退休的拉斯维加斯警察萨顿（Randy Sutton）表示，事发当时，警方接获报案，声称有可疑人士出现在集会现场附近，于是警方立即展开搜索行动，并在屋顶发现枪手的踪影。
然而，由于活动地点没有梯子或其他方式到达屋顶，因此警员只能爬到同袍的背上，试图接近克鲁克斯，并将他制伏。岂料，枪手察觉后，立刻转过身用枪指向他，迫使警员立刻蹲下，没想到却因此从另一名警员的背上摔了下来。
