中国气象局前局长庄国泰3日出现在国务院免职官员名单中，被刻意导引为“因气球事件遭免职”。（取自微博）
中国“间谍气球”风波持续延烧，考验美国以及中国之间的内政外交。中方坚称气球是“中国民用飞艇”，因不可抗力进入美国领土，只是为了“研究气象”；美方则指控中国派遣间谍气球蒐集情资。
中国间谍气球被披露至今，中国气象局前局长庄国泰3日出现在中国国务院免职官员的名单中，被刻意导引为“因气球事件而遭免职，以示负责”。
CNN等外媒也指出，北京当局是为了强化这枚间谍气球为“气象研究”的说法；不过，事实上，庄国泰在1月时，便转任甘肃省政协主席，形同升官，“负责下台”的说法不攻自破。
新华社3日下午发布中国国务院“任免国家工作人员”名单，其中包括张玉卓被任命为国务院国资委主任，郝鹏、徐麟分别被免去国资委主任、国家广电总局长职务等人事调动。而在名单中，庄国泰被免去中国气象局局长职务，引起众多关注。
除被大规模转发，中国的时政网络写手也发表意见，声称庄国泰被免去气象局长职务是中方的“究责”之举，庄国泰是由于气象气球“误入”美国本土，而负责下台。
不过事实上，看起来是被迫卸下气象局长职务的庄国泰，早在今年1月时政协甘肃省十三届一次会议举行的第三次全体会议，庄国泰就获选为政协甘肃省第十三届委员会主席，成为正部级官员，因此离开气象局其实是“早已升官”。
舆论分析认为，北京当局有意靠将辞退气象局长的作为用来强化高空气球“气象用途”、“民用”的说法。
