As long as China's sanctions against Nancy Pelosi stay in place, they will help the decoupling process currently underway, which is a welcomed move. I, however, worry that China will quietly back off after the rhetoric achieves its intended effect of calming its people. China did suspend the additional tariff on the imported American soybeans shortly after imposing it.
I hope upon her return from this Asian trip, speaker Pelosi will work hard to get the Congress passing the new Taiwan Policy Act 2022 that would significantly boost Taiwan's defense capabilities and international participation.
Taiwan Policy Bill 2022:
-The bill includes $6.5 billion in foreign military financing for Taiwan over the next four years.
-The Taiwan Policy Act would also designate Taiwan a “major non-NATO ally,”
-Taiwan’s de facto embassy in Washington, would go from being called the “Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office” to the “Taiwan Representative Office.”
-Require the president to impose sanctions on senior Chinese officials — including its president — if they escalate tensions
