Some people see changing citizenship merely as a way to gain more benefits such as freedom to travel or better living conditions, without realizing the obligations and consequences. As a former Chinese citizen, you automatically lose your Chinese citizenship the moment you pledge allegiance to the US to become a US citizen.
In countries such as Canada, Taiwan or Israel where dual citizenship is allowed, acquiring a new citizenship may not bring much changes. Whereas for China, you are not one of them any more even you may think you still are, if you obtain citizenship from another country.
Naturalization Oath of Allegiance to the United States of America
Oath
"I hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty, of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen; that I will support and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I will bear arms on behalf of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform noncombatant service in the Armed Forces of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform work of national importance under civilian direction when required by the law; and that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; so help me God."
To become a naturalized citizen of the US is pride for us and for many seeking the freedom and entrepreneurship this country stands for. We understand the privileges and responsibilities of being US citizens and are willing to take the oath.
What makes me scratch my head is that some people pledge oath only to obtain the US citizenships. At minimum, they are not being honest to their hearts.
This is stupid. They also want to mention that :
Chinese overseas can eat foreign food, if they so desire
Chinese overseas can also speak foreign language, if they so desire ...
