《华盛顿邮报》3日曾报道称，该报得到的电话录音显示，特朗普在2日与佐治亚州州务卿拉芬斯珀格（Brad Raffensperger）通了电话，要求其“找出11,780票”以改变佐治亚州的选举结果。在电话中，特朗普还威胁拉芬斯珀格如果不这样做将面临潜在的刑事诉讼，承担“重大风险”。但后者拒绝了特朗普。
当选副总统贺锦丽（Kamala Harris）当天批评特朗普滥用权力，并表示这通电话透露出特朗普“绝望的声音”。据报道，有选举专家表示，这通电话将会引发法律问题。
《国会山报》报道称，特朗普已经被众议院弹劾，但没有被参议院定罪。
