华盛顿邮报揭示中国间谍气球为何入侵美国

《华盛顿邮报》专栏作家伊格内修斯（David Ignatius）引述情报分析师表示，中国侦察气球此时入侵美国，可能是为了展现实力，抑或是内部强硬派欲破坏美国国务卿布林肯访华。他指出：对中国国家主席习近平的好战政权来说，能让美国难堪的机会永远吸引人。
伊格内修斯表示，情报官员尚不清楚北京为何会选在此时派侦察气球飞越美国，尤其是在布林肯访中前夕，但有几个可能性：
一个可能是鉴于经济成长缓慢、人民政治抗争及新冠病毒疫情管理不善等一系列内部问题，中国企图透过侦察气球展现实力。对中国国家主席习近平的好战政权来说，能让美国难堪的机会永远吸引人，尤其是华府近来在台湾海峡和南海进行“自由航行行动”。
情报分析师另一个考虑的可能性是中国军方或领导阶层内强硬派人士想破坏布林肯访华。布林肯访华主要目的为寻求建立战略稳定措施或护栏，降低美中因为台湾或其他议题爆发冲突的可能。
最后一个，则单纯是一连串失误所造成。伊格内修斯说，这在任何情报或军事行动中都可能发生，如同一名五角大楼官员所指：“有时候左手不知道右手在干什么。”
《华盛顿邮报》另一名专栏作家塔鲁尔（Ishaan Tharoor）则分析，这次侦察气球事件对中国造成的伤害多于美国。北京今年试图摆出较友好姿态，希望消除国际对中国日益升高的恐惧与不满，布林肯访华本可能为美中翻开新页，此次事件却反而凸显双方紧张的严重程度。
塔鲁尔指出，若习近平与中国高阶领导人果真对侦察气球一无所知，则会引发更令人不安的疑问，包括中共内部权力结构派系是否想破坏习近平的权威。
