think about car designs... in a traditional car structure, there are two chassis frame rails, that bear the weight and transfer the weight to the wheels. in 60-70's, there was an oil crisis. probably started in japan, to reduce the fuel cost, they removed the frame rails so to reduce the total weight. they designed what is called today "unibody". people were excited about the fuel economy of japanese cars, even today.

remember, luxury cars like mb s series, cadilac, lincoln, lexus lx460, and all tesla cars are still using frame rails.
in normal driving conditions, the unibody will do its job. but when in an accident like head-on crash, the unibody will crumple like a noodle, the driver and passengers have no chance of survival. on the other hand, cars with frame rails will protect you. i saw a video recently a tesla strayed 90 deg onto a solid fork divider on a highway with speed at 70 miles, the car flipped up and landed face down, but the driver miraculously walked out of the car.
back to the topic of building, only after a life or death test, people will realize - never cut corners.
缅甸28日下午发生强震，震波影响周边，远在1千公里之外的泰国曼谷，一处兴建中的国家审计署办公大楼倒塌引发关注。大陆官媒《环球时报》前总编胡锡进昨在微博发文称，“这座倒塌大楼估计要遭设计和质量追究。”不过该文在微博下架，但仍在陆媒“观察者网”的“风闻社区”栏目刊登。
胡锡进称，“这是老胡从即时新闻上见过的最惨烈的大楼被震塌的情景。大白天，大概有不少施工者被埋。希望能多有些幸存者”，胡亦提及，从网络的影片上看，曼谷当时震得并不厉害，毕竟离震央挺远，“这座倒塌大楼估计要遭设计和质量追究。”
新华社28日从曼谷发布的“强震造成泰国曼谷在建高楼倒塌1死43人失踪”文章，29日搜寻时已在新华网、央视网下架。
大陆财新网28日称，这栋倒塌大楼是中国“中铁十局”首个海外超高层建筑，主体办公楼33层，地震中结构损坏、全部倒塌。
财新网引述泰媒PBS Thai表示，泰国审计长办公室发言人Sutthipong Bunnithi称，受缅甸强地震的影响，正在建设中的泰国新国家审计局办公楼大楼结构损坏，全部倒塌。截至目前，该大楼的建设进度为30%。
上述发言人表示，该项目2020年动工，曾因新冠疫情一度暂停。该项目由意大利-泰国发展公共有限公司（Italian-Thai Development Company）和中铁十局（泰国）有限公司组成的联合体（ITD-CREC）实施。
财新网引述中铁十局集团公众号，2024年3月31日，该办公楼主体结构封顶，全面进入装饰装修阶段。中铁十局介绍，这是全局在海外首个承建的超高层建筑，项目西临曼谷火车站、东侧与曼谷国家公园相望，建成后主要为泰国国家审计局等相关政府职能部门服务。
另据走出去情报公众号，该办公楼项目由中泰联合体中标，由中铁十局负责整体实施，合同额21.36亿泰铢，施工内容主要包括一栋地上33层办公楼，及一栋5层停车楼，建筑总面积约9.41万平方米，办公楼主体高137米，结构形式为“核心筒+无梁楼板”。
